    Concept Statement

In any given building, shopping area or other public space there is constant surveillance. A visit to the grocery store is subjecting oneself to a vast array of image and data capture experiences, all of which serve to monitor our existence. This work takes the security camera video feed from a large building and transforms it into abstract color patterns that are displayed in the building lobby. As people walk by, they are also captured by a live video camera and superimposed onto the ongoing surveillance feeds. If they choose, they can select a surveillance channel to view from a push button panel resembling and elevator switch board.

Other applications of this remediation of technological surveillance is the transformation of surveillance at large media events (concerts, sports) into images or sound that contribute to a part of the spectacle.
